Neighbors
We are in our 3rd year of living in apartments and are used to most of the noises that neighbors can make. Crying babies, scraping chairs, loud opening and closing of shutters, loud talking, TV's, we've heard most of it. But last night we heard something that shook us to our core. We believe there is a couple who lives on the 4th floor in our building (we are on the 2nd). I don't think I have ever seen them, at least not the woman. That is not too uncommon as the French are very private and keep to themselves. I have heard them have a bad fight once before but last night it was horrible. It started out as a fight and then it got to bloodcurdling screams. Not screaming words, just screaming. My heart was pounding and we wanted to help, but did not know what to do. We went to call the police, only to realize that we didn't know their number. Stupid, yeah we realize that now (there isn't a 911 number in France, ambulance, firefighters and police are all separate). So then Keith decided he should just go up there, but then the guy ran down the stairs and it was over. He went upstairs and heard the woman talking to another woman, so we knew she was okay at least. We need to look into what to do if/when this happens again. We would appreicate prayers for wisdom, discretion and courage. Without being fully confident in the language we feel a little unsure. Tuesday night is our night in the week, where we commit to it just being us each week. While we were both very shook up, it really did make us appreciate each other that night and be grateful for each other all the more. It also made us realize what a fallen world we live in and how urgently this world needs to see the Kingdom come!
